What is Beta Reading?
Beta Reading is when a writer asks a family member, friend, or stranger to read his or her work in order to give feedback or critique. This is essential for the writing process because it can let a writer know about plot holes and pitfalls long before it goes to an agent or a publisher.
Well if my friends and family can do it, why do I need you?
That’s true, your friends and family can read it for you, but can you trust them to give you unbiased opinions? Can they really spare your feelings and give you a completely honest critique? That’s where I come in. You don’t know me, and that’s terrifying, but it’s also a blessing in disguise. I can, and will, read and critique your work completely without bias.
Okay… but what will you really do?
I will read your work, taking notes as I go. Sometimes I will find grammatical errors, which I will gladly point out, but I’m mostly going to look at how easy the story is to read. Does it sound juvenile? Is the plot super cliched? How about the characters, are they realistic? How about the setting? Is there life in this book? All of that and any questions you specifically want to be answered I will discuss in a final reader’s report that I will send you approximately a week from receiving the MS.
But will you read my work?
I would love to! However, I should mention that I’m mostly interested in reading fiction. So if you have a cookbook that you would like edited, I might not be the best option.
What do you charge?
I’m super affordable! I only charge $1 for every 1,000 words.
Awesome, how do I contact you?
If you’re interested in working with me, just send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and please give me a day or two to respond.
